MONDAY:
Since we are celebrating Constitution Day today, Citizenship seems to be a great character word for that celebration. Citizenship is our most basic right, because it is the right to have rights. What that means is that being a citizen of this country guarantees you the basic rights protected in our Constitution. Our Constitution covers every citizen equally, regardless of race, gender, religion, country of origin, or any other identifying feature. In exchange for all these freedoms, we have a responsibility to respect authority and obey laws. TUESDAY: Citizenship is our most basic right, because it is the right to have rights. What that means is that being a citizen of this country guarantees you the basic rights protected in our Constitution. As a citizen, it is your job to make things better around you. You should take care of your family, friends, house, school, and community. Always leave any person or place better than you find it. Be a positive impact on your world. WEDNESDAY: Review day: Ask for multiple definitions of citizenship based on what they've learned so far this week. THURSDAY: Citizenship is our most basic right, because it is the right to have rights. What that means is that being a citizen of this country guarantees you the basic rights protected in our Constitution. One way you can practice being a good citizen is to be active in the community. That means you can volunteer to help around town, come up with ideas for how to improve your community and share them with the mayor, do community service projects, or something small like the Kindness Rocks project that will seek to improve the town by spreading joy. FRIDAY: As we know, being a citizen gives you the same basic rights as every other citizen. With those rights comes some responsibilities - like respecting authority, helping to make things better around your home and school, and getting involved in your community to make a difference. Another way to be a good citizen is to help protect the environment - both in your town and around the world. That means you never litter (which means to throw trash on the ground or in the water). You can go a long way toward protecting the environment by recycling. You also can help out by picking up any trash you see on the ground and throwing it in a trash can. Every little bit helps. If all of you do a little bit, that will make a big difference. |
