St. Jude

We are bringing awareness and celebrating St. Jude's Hospital at WES. As a way to tie that into this character word, I looked up St. Jude the man to see how he represented perseverance. Did you know that St. Jude Thaddeus is the Patron Saint of the Impossible? He is believed to be a blood relative of Jesus (from the Christian bible) and authored one of the books in the bible (appropriately named Jude). His book encouraged perseverance in the face of the harsh, difficult circumstances the new Christian-converted people were facing in the Roman Empire in the years after the death of Jesus. His inspirational support led to his canonization as the patron saint of desperate causes (the impossible). St. Jude's Hospital chose him because most of the children that come there are facing desperate or impossible causes and they need to be reminded to persevere through their harsh, difficult circumstances.
