Success is defined as “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” Therefore, what makes you successful is you making a goal, and then achieving that goal. This year, along with our character words, we are going to learn about a lot of different skills you’ll need to become a successful person. Everyone of you has the ability to be successful throughout this year at school, your school career, your work now and later in life, and in life as a whole.

Success skill #1 is PROFESSIONALISM. There are many aspects of professionalism we will be talking about. One part of that is knowing how to shake hands properly. It is important when you meet other professional people, politicians, or even a lot of adults, to shake their hand firmly while making eye contact and speak in a voice that is easily heard while not yelling.
Some tips when it comes to making a good impression include: • Dressing properly for the work setting • Arriving on time and staying productive until you leave • Using computers, if you have access to them, only for work-related tasks • Speaking in a respectful manner with supervisors, peers, and customers. Also remember that even when you are technically “off-duty” in the lunchroom or at an event, you are representing the organization and are expected to act professionally. Don’t contribute to gossip or banter around too much with your co-workers. Although you are allowed to have fun and enjoy your job, you are still there to work.
