MONDAY:
This week is Freedom Week! As such, we will learn about Patriotism and how important it is for you to show it. Patriotism is a set of beliefs, actions, and thoughts in which an individual actively protects and defends the concept of what it means to be American. American values include: hard work, social mobility, education, ownership, civic duty, freedom, democracy, and rule of law. TUESDAY: Patriotism is a set of beliefs, actions, and thoughts in which an individual actively protects and defends the concept of what it means to be American. Today, in the NFL, the flag has become a symbol of protest. However, historically, our flag has been the symbol for bringing all people of differing backgrounds together as one people. It has been a symbol of freedom, an idea of hope for a better future, and a rallying point for the downtrodden. After Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941, every magazine across the nation banded together to put the flag on every cover in order to boost the American spirit. After the hijacked plane attacks on September 11, 2001, one of the most enduring symbols of American unity and patriotism was of a flag being hung above the rubble by firemen. Regardless of what is going on right at this moment, the flag will always stand as a representation of that American spirit that is unwavering when it is joined as one. WEDNESDAY: Patriotism is a set of beliefs, actions, and thoughts in which an individual actively protects and defends the concept of what it means to be American. One of the greatest things about the United States is how different we all are. Look at the map on the screen, you will see something that each state is known for. You’ll also notice that each state has something different that they are known for. Part of patriotism is celebrating and recognizing the differences between us that makes us better together than apart. THURSDAY: Patriotism is a set of beliefs, actions, and thoughts in which an individual actively protects and defends the concept of what it means to be American. Patriotism isn’t just about standing for the flag or supporting the troops. Patriotism means you protect other people’s rights also. You stand up for them, and yourself, against those that would take away their rights or freedom. It means you respect your country and it’s leaders, even when you disagree with them. Patriotism means that no matter how much you disagree with someone’s beliefs or ideas, you defend their right to have those beliefs or ideas. |
