Perseverance means to work hard and never give up. In the 1930s and 1940s, Jews in Germany, Poland, Austria, and other countries had to show great perseverance. Adolf Hitler rolled over the landscape in order to dominate the world and eliminate the Jews (and other undesirable people). From fleeing their home countries, to hiding in attics and under floorboards, to life in ghettos and concentration camps, the Jewish people had two choices: persevere or give up. The many stories that came out of that nightmare show a perseverance unlike many the world has ever seen. From the works of survivors like the Diary of Anne Frank, to Night by Elie Wiesel (pronounced Ell-E Vee-zel), to the many other works history has preserved, one thing becomes clear - the Nazi’s could not overcome the spirit of perseverance the Jewish people embraced and embodied.
